Thames Valley Police making it harder than ever for suspects to make a clean getaway |
||
|
Hello Resident, We are emailing to let you know that we have started to use SelectaDNA tagging spray across Oxford. It is a forensic spray which contains a unique DNA solution that sticks to a suspect’s skin or clothing, meaning even if they escape the scene, they won’t escape identification. The liquid sprayed from the device contains no harmful substances, is invisible to the eye and can’t be rubbed off. Sergeant Sam French, based at Cowley Police Station, said: “Offenders might be quick to make a getaway, but they are no match for traceable DNA. “The spray gives us a safe, effective and traceable way to tag suspects who try to get away.” Already used successfully in other police forces, SelectaDNA is deployed in situations where officers need to keep distance for safety or where there is a fast-moving suspect. Councillor Lubna Arshad, Oxford City Council’s Cabinet Member for a Safer Oxford, said: “Our annual residents’ survey shows that crime and anti-social behaviour in our neighbourhoods continue to be key concerns for local people. “This is why we are working with Thames Valley Police on an operation aimed at tackling motorbike related anti-social behaviour in Barton.” Thames Valley Police is committed to tackling antisocial behaviour, disrupting offenders and keeping Oxford’s streets safer for residents, students, businesses and visitors.
